"I have these old, torn little books I used to make as a child. For as long as I can remember, I have loved making books and writing stories. All of my early subjects were animals - they were all created in exactly the same way, with an oval body, round head and four stump legs. If it was an elephant, I added a trunk. If it was a dog, I added floppy ears. I look at these early drawings and think how simple things used to be! I now get lost in the detail - the way an ear folds, the way an eye is shaped, the movement of a leg or the direction of fur." |
