Among the Few
The bison originally inhabited the Great Plains of the United States and Canada in massive herds, ranging from the Great Slave Lake in Canada's far north to Mexico in the south, and from eastern Oregon almost to the Atlantic Ocean.
After almost becoming extinct due to over hunting, the current American Bison population has been growing rapidly and is estimated at 350,000. That may sound healthy, but this is compared to an estimated 60–100 million in the mid-19th century.

Wild Survivors
Two million years ago, the early horse became similar in size and form to the modern horse. It survived the challenges of the Ice Age, when glaciers covered much of North America. Early man no doubt thought the horse could outrun the wind.
The wild horse could live on weeds and very small amounts of water. They learned to be safe in numbers, with leaders and lookouts for the herd.
If it were not for the spreading of ranches over their land, I imagine they would live wild forever.

A Place to Love
I like to think there is a place in each persons world free of fear. A place where there is no “other”. A place to feel safe and open. If we all had a place like that to go, and we all went there, I think everyone would fall in love.
“You know you're in love when you can't fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.”

Shades of Light
Light ripples across the earth to create a mirage of water where there is none. A shadow of clouds bounces across the sea from thousands of feet above. Light filters through leaves, painting a pattern like no other on the ground.
Light creates a visual depth and without light, our days would all be gray and flat.
However, I think our minds need days lacking light to rest and to appreciate those that glow.

Space of Happiness
When we think of happiness, we often think of acquiring possessions. We think of good weather or good health or the company of good friends. But what makes you really happy? I find some of my happiest moments are not when I am surrounded by what I think makes me happy, but when I am able to let my mind free the unhappiness of needs and wants, where ever it may be.
“Remember happiness doesn't depend upon who you are or what you have; it depends solely on what you think.”

Balancing Abundance
Unlike much wildlife today, Sandhill Crane populations in parts of the U.S. and Canada have been expanding rapidly. A recovering crane population has found wetlands to nest in and agricultural lands that are suitable for foraging.
This balance, though, is precarious. The Sandhill Crane foraging causes more and more crop damage as they multiply in numbers.
Are there too many of us? Or too many of them?
